 About the city

Trivandrum, the ancient capital of the State of Travancore is the capital city of Kerala and has its name from Lord Padmanabha (Mahavishnu) who is resting on Ananda, the serpent king. It is the “evergreen city” and a favored tourist spot with its world famous Kovalam beach and Sree Padmanabha Swami temple, one of the richest temples in India. The city is easily accessible by air, train as well as road transport.
The important tourist attractions are Sree Padmanabaha Swami temple, Attukal temple, Beemapalli (Mosque), Vettukadu Church,Psycho Park, Dams, Ponmudi (hill resort), Zoo, Museum, Planetarium,Observatory, Lulu mall (Largest in Asia), Ancient Palaces, Veli Tourist Villege, backwaters and resorts.


Padmanabha Swami Temple

Padmanabha Swami Temple is one of the richest temple in India and has a unique archetecture and history. It is a famous pilgrimage centre and an important tourist location. The city got the name Thiruananthapuram from the daity of this temple, Lord Mahavishnu resting on “Ananda” the serpant God. This is perhaps the only temple where the idol of the diety is worshiped in the lying posture.


Kovalam Beach

The world famous beach marked by its scenic beauty and shallow waters. Kovalam beach is a most sought after location, it has the best facilities to beach lovers like swimming, Ayurvedic massages, sunbathing, adventure sports, shopping and many other options.



The southern most point of India where the three oceans meet. It has a famous beach and the sunset and sunrise provide unique experience. A highly favoured tourist place located 80 km away from the city. There are daily tourist packages to this place from Trivandrum. Enroute you can visit the traditional palace, Padmanabhapuram Palace and famous Sucheendram Temple

Approximate cost of the tour package is given below:

Ponmudi tour package- start at 8 a.m from Hotel Chaithram(Near Bus station) and ends by 6.00 p.m – Package cost Rs.400

Similarly Kanyakumari package also operate from the same place but ends at 8.00 p.m – Cost – Rs 700

Psychopark – For a group of 20 the appropriate cost is Rs 500 per person (including lunch, travel and entrance fee)
